On the day the third democratically elected government held reins of governance on November 7 last year, a long queue of people lined up to offer khadar to the prime minister.
Despite the rush, media fraternity was ushered into the Prime Minister’s Office and the first press conference was held. It was a clear communication on the openness of the government and the importance government assured the media.
We close this year with the final monthly meet the press for today at the conference hall of the information and communications ministry.
The media had questions on age of enrollment for class PP students, central school freebies, state of our economy and its roadmap, Bhutanese working abroad, rising social crimes and need for forensic lab.
This was the 33rd press interaction in the last 13 months of the government. This excludes the one-on-one interviews, media attendance for events and meetings, and the press conferences and interviews held by the respective ministries.
As we end the year 2019, we would like to thank the media fraternity for their cooperation in informing our people with timely dissemination of information on the plans and priorities of the government, while also ensuring their role as the government watchdog.
As we look into the year 2020, we look forward to working together in fostering democracy through empowerment of people through quality and factual information.
